Most addicts and family members seeking help or treatment, know very little in the way of unique terms and phrases connected to addiction treatment and or sobriety.
The Rehab Guide has compiled a unique addiction glossary to help those individuals learn the terms needed to understand mental health, addiction and recovery related terms.

Rehab or Rehabilitationsearch for term

Rehab or rehabilitation is best know as an umbrella term for a variety of processes by which a person addicted to drug stops using that drug or alcohol during rehabilitation. These processes can vary from cold turkey to the use of substitute drugs which do not have the same action upon the state of consciousness as the original drug to which the person was addicted.

Relapsesearch for term

Relapsei is call when  a person falls back into a previous state of drinking or using drugs after achieving a level of abstinence. The act of “going back” into old behaviors of substance abuce.

Relapse Preventionsearch for term

Relapse Preventioni refers to the method of counseling or treatments, services and client/patient behavior modification designed to prevent a recovering addict from returning to abusing drugs or alcohol.

Relapsei prevention is a cognitive-behavioral approach with the goal of identifying and preventing a treatment client from seeking high-risk situations such as substance abuse, obsessive-compulsive behavior, sexual offending, obesity, and depression.
Furthermore, relapse prevention is a highly important component in the treatment process of alcoholism, or alcohol dependence during rehab.
 

Residential treatment centersearch for term

Residential treatment centeri are licensed addiction and alcohol treatment centers or facilities, which specializes in the treatment of addiction and alcoholism. Addicts and alcoholics that attend treatment here generally reside within the facility, while other services are often offered such as outpatient.

Residential treatment facilityi is a state licensed addiction and alcoholism treatment center, which specializes in the treatment of drug and alcoholism. Addicts and alcoholics that attend treatment at this type of facility generally reside in the facility, although other services are offered.

A Residential treatment programi is usually located within an onsite residential treatment facility that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism. Its goal is to teach addicts and alcoholics how to achieve and maintain long term abstinence. The components of such a program are generally medical, psychological, clinical, nutritional and educational.

Reviai ® is a trade name for the opiate antagonist Naltrexone
​ As a receptor antagonist it is used primarily in the management of alcohol dependence and opioid addiction.

"Reality Therapyi" is a type of therapy that was developed by William Glasser M.D and runs in stark contrast to Dr. Freud's dealings with the unconscious mind and rather focuses on the present circumstances troubling a particular treatment patient.

"Recoveryi" is the process of recovering from alcoholism or drug addiction.
Some people especially in AA like to refer to all addicts and alcoholics as “being in recovery” or “recovering” for life, while some programs deem you “recovered” once you have stopped using.
The two references are controversial.

"Recovery livingi" is the type of living one does in a sober living or halfway house, where the primary number one rule is you stay sober and free from drug use or alcohol.

"Rehab programi" may be outpatient or at a treatment facility, or by court mandate. It is generally short for a period of time of 30 to 90 days where a proper program is presented to address the alcohol and or drug recovery of the individual.

"Rehab treatmenti" is also a reference to treatment to get free from drugs or alcohol.

Rehabilitationsearch for term

Drug or Alcohol Rehabilitationi is the restoration of an optimum state of health by medical, psychological and social means, including peer group support, for an alcoholic/addict, a family member or a significant other.

Residential programsearch for term

"Residential programi" or Residential treatment is when client/patients live in a residence and receive treatment at the same time such as treatment facility.
The rules are considerably stricter and more structure than a sober living home or a halfway house.

"Resourcesi" are, when it comes to drugs and alcohol, the tools one has in hands or in his/her mind that have been learned to deal with alcoholism or drug addiction
